![]() ![]() Second test confirmed the issue: When setup a file "test.txt" and setting it to "hidden" via Windows Explorer on the host, I can open it through vi, but when trying to save changes, vi denies the action with "test.txt E212: Can't open file for writing". This is not a solution, though, since a synchronization issue causes the file to constantly being set to "hidden" without a chance to keep it marked as "not hidden". When removing the hidden file attribute, the file suddenly becomes writeable and everything is fine. The.htaccess files is marked as "hidden" through Windows Explorer on the host (FS being NTFS) htaccess is supposed to be updated through apache each time I change a page of a wordpress installation served through the LAMP). ![]() When trying to write to a hidden file on the host mounted as /lampserver.local// from within the guest through Apache, the contents of the file get deleted, but the file itself will stay there (in this case, the. host:/share- /lampserver.local/ vmhgfs defaults 0 0 Shared folder setup as "share-", successfully mounted in fstab via Guest: Ubuntu 8.04 JeOS with OpenVM Tools Don't reload or you'll lose your anycodings_vi changes.Using VMHGFS shared folders, any files set to "hidden" within the host are not writeable. And it ask if anycodings_vi you want to re-load. The anycodings_vi percent means the current file name. anycodings_vi chmod means change permissions, 777 anycodings_vi means full permissions everywhere. The bang anycodings_vi means start interpreting as shell. ![]() You need the exclamation anycodings_vi point because you are editing a root anycodings_vi file as a lesser user. The permissions are expanded, and the anycodings_vi file is saved. Then make some changes to the file, it anycodings_vi warns you its read only. One time Setup demo to create a root anycodings_vi owned read only file for a lower user: sudo touch temp.txtÄŻirst open the file as normal user: vi temp.txt See this demo of anycodings_vi how to save those changes: Instead of losing all your changes and anycodings_vi re-opening with sudo. That happens to me all the time, I open a root file for writing: ![]()
